Domaine Lignier-Michelot (France)
Apr 7th, 2008 | By Daniel | Category: France (法國)Domaine Lignier-Michelot
Morey Saint Denis in Côte de Nuits
Burgundy, France

The Domaine Lignier was established in Morey St. Denis at the beginning of the 20th century by Virgile Lignier’s great grandfather. When Virgile’s father Maurice took over in 1963, the entire production was sold to négociants. Virgile Lignier, who joined his father Maurice in 1992, heads this 8 hectares estate. Virgile, a fourth generation winemaker, was the driver for estate bottling and selling them directly.
Currently, Lignier-mIchelot has choice plots in Chambolle-Musigny, and Gevrey Chambertin at the villages level, 1er Cru Rue de Vergy, Aux Charmes, Chenevery and Faconnieres in Morey Saint Denis, on top of their top of the line, the Clos de la Roche. 1,000 cases are made annually.
Lignier’s wine style is said to mimic Henri Jayer; finest fruit, total de-stemming with cool must maceration for 5 to 6 days prior to fermentation, with further aging of new oak for 12 to 15 months before bottling unfined and unfiltered.
The style of the Lignier-Michelot wines is dramatic and opulent, with sappy cores of fruit, excellent expressions of terroir, and the balance and structure to allow graceful aging in the cellar. The wines are priced reasonable and remain within reach to the average wine consumer.

2005 Domaine Lignier-Michelot Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny
05042008. 13.0%. 100% Pinot Noir. Decanted for an hour. Still relatively young, tight with fresh wild berry, crushed rock with a hint of spice. Medium-bodied with good acidity, energy and a structured good length finish. Tremendous quality for a village wine. Drink between 2010 and 2016. ![]()
