W05122007. F16052008. Franciacorta is a DOCG classification for Sparkling wine from Brescia in Lombardy. 12.5%. Blend of 75% Chardonnay, 10% Pinot Bianco 10%, and 5% Pinot Nero. 28 months maturation before release. Good citrus with a twist of lemon and pleasant bread which shined in the glass. Medium-bodied, it has good acidity balance, with a hint of saltiness, but flavorsome, fresh and extremely drinkable now. Good grippy finish. This Cuvee is an absolute delight, providing a truly memorable experience and great value as compared with French Champagne. Enjoyable now. Drink from 2008.

F16052008. 13.5%. 90% Prugnolo Gentile; a clone type of Sangiovese (桑娇维塞), and 10% Merlot (又称梅乐). A very likable wine with wonderful ripe wild berry and hints of licorice. A plush fruit profile, light to medium-bodied with a straight palate, good acidity and a simple finish. Drink between 2009 and 2014.

1990 Pio Cesare Barolo Ornato

1990 was a superb decade for Italian wine with a small crop of outstanding wines being produced. In Piedmont the summer was hot and dry with occasional rain falling just at the right time to give the vines welcome relief. The harvest began 2 weeks earlier than normal and took place in ideal weather conditions. The wines were ripe, firm and well-structured in youth and have developed marvellously well with the finest Barolos and Barbarescos will continue improving for many more years to come.

F16052008. 13.5%. 100% Nebbiolo (内比奥罗). Sampled with dinner. Initially youthful with rich caramel oak domination. It went on to open well with bright red cherry and floral scent. It went on later to invoke further complexity with tea flavors, and mushroom. Medium-bodied with moderate acidity, it is elegant and backed by a cherry first, then earth. This is a fluid, complete and harmonious wine which I feel it may not improve much more than its current state of evolution. A short dry finishing. Enjoyable now. Drink from 2008 to 2011.

Medium-bodied, with serious pleasure, it is tasty with overripe black cherry and mocha flavors. Moderate depth with good density. Soft tannins, and a smooth texture for an enjoyable and good medium finish. Drink from 2008 to 2018.

F16052008. 13.5%. 100% Sangiovese. Tasted over 2 hours with bottle decanting. Stewed plum and ripe raspberry laced with licorice and heat. Full-bodied, spicy and ripe, it has a viscous palate rich in red fruit and mineral, with crushed berries. It has also fairly intense heat and alcoholic fumes. This is an interesting Tuscan style although I am not overly impressed with the quality.

Full-bodied with tons of berry and depth, the wine continues to breathe in the glass for hours, with rich, explosive dark berries, vanilla, and finessed tannins. Lush and firm with medium to long finish. Drink from 2010 to 2017.

F16052008. 16.0%. Intense, candied fruit peel, figs and raisins plus spirit. Full-bodied, dense, almost honeyed mouth-feel with notable sweetness and weight. Medium persistance and compact taste. Drink from 2008 to 2019.
