Leflaive, is a 22 hectares biodynamic estate is perhaps the most famous estate offering heavily priced wines from the region of Puligny-Montrachet. Today it is owned and run by 54 year old Anne-Claude Leflaive when she took over in 1990 though Pierre Morey retired in July 2008. The estate sees choice plots in the areas of Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, Chevalier-Montrachet, Puligny-Montrachet Clavoillon, Les Combettes, Les Folatières, and Les Pucelles.

The wines are aged for 12 months in 25% new oak and are then transferred to steel tanks where they are allowed to clarify naturally over the second winter. They are then fined and bottled. Leflaive is considered to be making the best Chardonnay styled wines that combine richness and depth of fruit with elegance, refinement and perfect balance.

The wines of Leflaive see 100% Chardonnay and commands premium prices. While highly sought-after by Burgundy wine lovers and collectors, its wines are out of reach to the average wine consumer.

12.0%. 100% Chardonnay from a 9 hectares vineyard overseen by a cousin of Anne-Claude Leflaive. The Macon styles from Les Héritiers du Comte Lafon shows better and is approachable readily and earlier than Leflaive’s. Medium-bodied, with an oily texture which also tasted sour and bitterness. Light acidity with apple and lemon hint. Short to medium finish. Drink from 2008 to 2009.

13.5%. 100% Chardonnay from 3 different vineyards. 20% new oak for 12 months, 6 months in tank before bottling and release. This high-end white wine was made in a distinct Puligny-Montrachet style. Full-bodied and condensed with freshness, flint, nuts and mineral with gorgeous acidity and some orangy scent. Lovely balance, with a long firm finish which last.
