Going to the non-Bordeaux blends, the 2002 Argiano Suolo Toscana IGT, from Italy Tuscany. At 14.5% with 100 Sangiovese, the wine was first introduced in 2000 from 40 year old Vignoni and 15 year old Oliviera single vineyard. Suolo sees 3 weeks fermentation and another 15 to 17 months in French oak before bottling unfiltered and released. The 2002 is an earlier redemptive Tuscan as compared to 2004 and 2005, is admirable for its approachability, with moderated tones of licorice, and black berry fruit. Medium-bodied textured, it is sweet with stuffed cherries, with softer shades of tannin and acidity, and gentle finish. Best from 2008 to 2012.
