Based in Bolognano, Zaccagnini is a 80 hectares estate founded in 1978. Total production is around 50,000 cases a year. The estate is also known to be one of the interesting wine producers making affordable wines. The regional distributor is Top Wines in Singapore.

2008 Cantina Zaccagnini Trebbiano d’Abruzzo Il Bianco di Ciccio (Italy, Abruzzi). 11.5%. 100% Trebbiano d’Abruzzo and Chardonnay. Lightly scented, with soft white pear and melon aromas. Medium-bodied, with sweetness and short lived white fruit flavors. The style of this wine seems geared towards an easy style, ideal to go along with Chinese Food Zhi Char or Spicy Crabs. Best form 2008 to 2009.

The 2005 Ciccio Zaccagnini Montepulciano d’Abruzzo San Clemente (Italy, Abruzzi). 14.5%. 100% Montepulciano d’Abruzzo native varietal. 15 months in oak before bottling and release. Personally, when we approached this wine, we were expecting a bold wine with heavy stuffing considering the aspiration of modernising of Montepeulciano wines. In short, aromas were rather pleasing with suggestion of elegantly polished red cherry and berry underpinned by spicy elements. Medium-bodied and well endowed with wild grass flavor, an a good berry presence which is not too heavy, about right to the mid-palate where it sweetens off to dryness, with a easy and enjoyable short finish. Good stuff, but price conscious. Best from 2008 to 2010.
