As the premier site in the Asian wine world, 酒 Editors and contributors share a dedication to ethical behavior and adopt this code to in our pursuit of wine enlightenment.
To our fellow wine lovers, and readers, we strive to be independent, neutral, truthful, and accountable.
To our sources and subjects, we have the duty to minimize misunderstanding, not misrepresent, get all sides of a story, and respect anonymity.
Wine Samples
From time to time, 酒 may get wine samples in the mail from producers, importers or parties from the wine trade. 酒 is open to welcoming samples and taste ever single bottle, under controlled conditions (like our storage facility, or at a local venue where there is air-conditioning), and and when convenient, 酒 will strive to taste them blind. 酒 will only publish wines which we like and will disclose them as press sample.
Product Endorsement
酒 is open to accepting wine related products for review consideration, but will not accept payment for advertorials or for endorsement of product. 酒 will only recommend products the editorial team has tried and there’s a consensus on the validity and and editorial value of these products.
Advertising
For financial reasons, 酒 may accept advertising on 酒 Jiuwine.com, as wine is an expensive and time consuming affair. It wilhelp to cover the cost of renewing and hosting this domain site.
However, 酒 will not accept advertising from wineries or conglomerate companies (like cooperatives) who own wineries. 酒 wishes to avoid any potential conflict of interest which tend to plague the likes of glossy magazines, both local and foreign. 酒 may take advertising from wine marketing bureaus or trade offices which represent a country or an entire region, as long they do not have any financial interest in any of the wineries they represent.
Affiliate Programs
酒 may participate in affiliate programs where we offer and exchange links to products, or wine related parties relevant to our editorial interest, including parties 酒 may have also chosen to review. We consider such links as a way to reach out to more readers and consumers, while 酒 do not accept fees.
Winery and Winemaker Events and Meals
Like many journalists in the wine world, 酒 may be invited to such events, from individual lunches or dinners with winemakers, to press functions, dinners, open houses and so forth. When attending, there are two further guidelines to such events.
I. 酒 will only meet a winemaker for lunch or dinner on our own terms in a public or anonymous setting, and 酒 will always strive to cover our own expenses, including corkage as and when it’s chargeable in Asian wine dining culture.
II. 酒 will not attend VIP or press events thrown by an individual winery representation. 酒 will only attend events which involve a significant number of multiple wineries.
Winery Visits
酒 will visit individual wineries on our terms, but usually visiting them requires an appointment and most of the time it is not possible to remain anonymous. While 酒 consider this to be regrettable, 酒 feels it may be necessary so as to have a chance to present a story of certain wines or producers to both our members and readers.
Press Passes to Public and Trade Tastings
酒 regularly receive and solicit press passes (i.e free tickets) to larger public and trade tastings for multiple wineries or exhibitors.
Press Trips
酒 has not taken a trip to anywhere that is paid for by an individual or a group of individual wineries. 酒 would consider should the situation arise, accepting an expense paid trip (provided if our editorial team can go in the first place) that is sponsored by a regional marketing organization.
Scores and Prices
酒 wine reviews and scores does not factor in any of the wine’s price in the score. While 酒 may occasionally highlight an extreme value of a wine, we would encourage and leave it to our readers to decide what represents good value.
Linking and Credits
酒 will provide links to the sources for stories, ideas, and content which 酒 discover on the web. In efforts to promote Asian wine appreciation, 酒 will link to any wine blogger who has a blog and would like to be listed on 酒 Jiuwine.com site.
Editorial Control and Comments
酒 exercise editorial control over the comments that appear on 酒 Jiuwine.com site. 酒 will edit (and often delete) comments which are purely self promotional, whether they be for someone’s personal blog or for someone’s wine. While 酒 understands this may be a grey area when it comes to people making wine recommendations in the comments, and 酒 will deal with these on a case-by-case basis. 酒 will also edit or sometimes delete comments to excise personal and ungrounded attacks on winemakers or on other commenter. As far as possible, 酒 will welcome, encourage and tolerate all opinions.
General Disclosure
酒 will stay independent, accountable and open as far as possible in identifying issues which may lead to queries about possible conflict of interest between ourselves and the wines and related product we review and pursue. If 酒 Editors review the wines of someone who happens to be a close personal friend, we will make mention, and amongst other such things should they arise.
Others
酒 will continue to function independently as a wine medium, while keeping our features and reviews as part of our expression opinions, experiences, and learnings. 酒 editorial staff will never publish content or opinions under false pretenses. 酒 take a serious view for our reports and reviews on this site.
酒 Editors and Contributors hold and adhere to the above ethics with care and consideration of continuing to be a reliable and trusted source of objective advice, free from conflicts of interest, bias which 酒 offer to today Chinese wine consumers and drinkers.
