The Côte des Bar area where Dosnon & Lepage is located in the Avirey-Lingey region is well known for its hard limestone soil (Kimmeridgien sub-soil like Chablis) and sunny Burgundy climate.

The winery was founded in 2005 by Avirey-Lingey brethren, Davy Doson and Simon-Charles Lepage (above) whom both decided the best wine route was to express their wine expertise and their surrounding terroir from . Dosnon studied viticulture and winemaking, while previously working for Serge Mathieu and Moutard Père et Fils, as well as at Rossignol-Trapet in Burgundy. While Simon-Charles Lepage, whom we met is a Criminal lawyer by training, whom decided to hang his cloak and wig in favor of the vine. The two decided to put their minds together to create a new champagne house, intended to express the terroirs of their native region.

“We are located in the southern part of the Champagne area which means we are very close to Burgundy. We want our wines to show a pure expression, its fruitiness, .and to show how the best Pinot Noir and Chardonnay has to offer from this area. Our Chardonnay and Pinot Noir has more fruit and more fuller bodied as our area is warmer, with our main intention and ideals is to really reveal the best part from the Champagne area, Cote d’ Bar. We wanted to show how a new and modern Champagne is like, while retaining its classic characteristics most of the time. ” Co-founder and winery director, Simon-Charles Lepage, March 2010.

As Simon explains, Dosnon and Lepage owns two hectares of vines in Avirey-Lingey and purchase more fruit for their Champagne wines from other growers from about 5 additional hectares in the surrounding area, making for a total production of around 60,000 bottles a year. On scene, they have 4 different cuvées, with a vintage bottling in the works. The vineyards are planted with some 80% Pinot Noir, with 20% Chardonnay. The house’s viticulture practices solely in the organic camp, with no artificial fertilizers used, using a combination of methods including weed control, turfing (favour microbial life and ground biodynamy), pruning, and yield control and so forth. The wines are aged in small French oak barrels (made from Puligny-Montrachet) and are neither fined nor filtered prior to bottling.

Dosnon & Lepage belongs to a league of non-Vintage Growers such as, Agrapart, Francoise Bedel, Henri Billiot, Pierre Callot, RH Coutier, Pascal Doquet, Godme Pere et Fils, Marc Hebrart, Lallier, Jean Laurent, Michel Loriot, Nicolas Maillart, Jean Milan, Pierre Moncuit, Moutard, Ployez-Jacquemart, Rodez, Louis de Sacy, Alan Soutiran, and Tarlant. Simon mentioned plans are underway to make the house’s first vintage Champagne, with its first vintage in 2008, due to the extraordinary “high acidity found in our wines”.,

90% of their wines exported, and mostly to on-trade clients including Restaurants, and wine retailers, with a minority 10% shipped to direct customers. The wines of Dosnon & Lepage can be found in our markets, with Artisan Cellars in Singapore, and Limestone Wines in Hong Kong.

For more information, please visit www.champagne-dosnon.com. Our photo presentation of this Champagne house can also be viewed online here.

Overall, this is an impressive Champagne house, despite it’s recent history as a Champagne producer, Doson and Simon does make and market very nice fun and cheer filled bubbly wines which have been impressive, especially their Blanc de Blanc, a 100% Chardonnay based cuvee which doesn’t fade and is consistent on the palate. For food pairing with today’s gourmets, they should pair well with today’s Chinese cuisines, especially southern, Yunan, Cantonese and Guangzhou styles, such as the every week Cantonese Dim Sum and Steamed Meat Dumplings, and I look forward to tasting many more of them in the near future.

N.V. Dosnon & Lepage Blanc de Noirs “Récolte Noire”

12.0%. 100% Pinot Noir. Bottled entirely from 2008 reserve wines, the Récolte Noire was pure Pinot Noir and started off well with pleasant fruit scents, and floral aromas, pleasing to nose and in sight. The palate was soft and restrained initially, with a tight restraining pull. A few seconds later, it shredded off its initial quietness to reveal a vibrancy which sinks well without too strong acidity which gave the palate a refreshing feel, plucking bold fruit flavors as it interacts with the surrounding environment and air in the glass. Good. Drink from 2010 to 2016. 12.0.

N.V. Dosnon & Lepage Blanc de Blanc “Récolte Blanche”

12.0%. 100% Chardonnay. This was an attractive bubbly with a core of elegance and deliciousness, possessing clarity of iron rich mineral and typicality, which could be a result of the winery’s beliefs in its rich soil characteristics. Captivating for the first few moments, with a firm mineral grip, slicing through your scent receptors with precision and clinical cleanness, which emits brightly from the glass. Medium-bodied, the well-honed and refined palate was balanced, while clouding your palate with its inert mineral subtleness and a persistent medium long finish. Drink between 2010 to 2018. 14.0.

N.V. Dosnon & Lepage Extra-Brut “Récolte Brute”

12.0%. 70% Pinot Noir, and 30% Chardonnay. The Récolte Brute exhaled a deep impression of cleanness and crispy clear acid and fruit infused aromas. Medium-bodied, while it retained it’s freshness due to the influence of it’s fresh acid residents, the palate doesn’t over power your taste-buds with is dryness. Rather restrained, giving a little, taking back a little, leaving a hint of dryness well after-taste. A well structured and balanced dry Champagne styled wine. Drink between 2010 to 2012. 13.0.

N.V. Dosnon & Lepage Extra-Brut “Récolte Rose”

12.0%. 100% Pinot Noir. This Rose came across to be as a sweetened fruit filled nose accompanied by a streak of mineral tone and some raspberry aromas. The palate was rather nice, and it seemed to me it was made in a sophisticated style which some may come to appreciate, while dry, it showed some balance with behind the scene freshness which stayed on vinously. Short on mid palate and finish. Drink between 2010 to 2012. 12.5.

Julie Cavil.

Julie Cavil.

Prunotto

A line up of Riesling wines from Bürklin Wolf.

The wines of Germany, particularly its white wines – Rieslings is fast becoming a hot favorite amongst Chinese wine lovers and connoisseurs in Asia. From 2005 and 2007 onwards, with each successful vintage, good German producers had been presenting wave after wave of quality and flavorful wines. They are very food friendly, lower in alcohol, and goes well with most food trends, including Chinese food. They can be priced variedly and some are very expensive, but most good German wines today represent great value.

Bürklin Wolf’s representative: Ms. Annette Siegrist.

Recently, we met Bürklin Wolf, whom is a wine producer from the wine region of Pflaz. The word Pfalz, comes from the Latin word palatium, meaning palace. After the Rheinhessen, the Pfalz is the next largest wine region in Germany. Pflaz is also home to some 45 white and 22 red grape varieties, but Riesling and Müller-Thurgau dominates the white wines; while Dornfelder, Portugieser and Spätburgunder make up for the red wine category. The region’s Müller-Thurgau produces very pleasant, soft, full-bodied white wines with good aroma. Their Riesling has a style ranging from dry to lusciously sweet. While Portugieser’s style is smooth and fruity. Dornfelder is interesting and can be complex, but that depends on who the winemaker and their winemaking techniques is.

The estate’s Export Manager, Ms. Annette Siegrist (as seen above) who oversees Bürklin Wolf’s wines in the International market said her wine style is, “fresh, youthful, crispy when well chilled.”

There was a discussion on the tendency to drink Riesling while they are young. Which Annette totally agrees and encourages,” We want our wines to be drunk young and not cellared, and they are flavorful and elegant due to its mineral soil. They are also especially popular with female wine drinkers“.

Bürklin Wolf, is the largest family-owned wine estate with 110 hectares, and located in the village of Wachenheim in the Pfalz wine-growing region in Germany. First founded in the 16th century, the biodynamic estate had been run by Bettina Bürklin von Guradze since 1992.

The vineyard area totals 85 hectares, with holdings in four vineyard areas: Deidesheim (Hohenmorgen, Kalkofen and Langenmorgen sites), Forst (Jesuitengarten, Kirchenstück, Pechstein and Ungeheuer), Rupperstberg (Gaisböhl, Hoheburg und Reiterpfad) and Wachenheim (Altenburg, Böhlig, Gerümpel, Goldbächel and Rechbächel).

Of the 85 hectares owned by Bürklin, 60 hectares are planted with Riesling. The rest is planted with red varieties like Pinot Noir, Dornfelder, Merlot, Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Tempranillo, Grenache and Syrah and white wine varietal Pinot Blanc. The best wines are marketed as G.C. (for Guradze Christian) and P.C. (for Phillip and Christian Bürklin). While the normal Rieslings are marked Estate, the association with the Burgundian labeling system (Grand Cru and Premier Cru) is intentional, which makes their wine labels easier to relate and remembered. The estate makes some 600,000 bottles, or 50,000 cases yearly. Some 25% to 30% is exported (with Germany being the largest market, followed by Spain and US) including Japan, Thailand, Shanghai, Beijing and Singapore.

Overall, the Rieslings of Bürklin Wolf is interesting and has complexity when aged for 3 to 5 years: while they are most famous for its dry Rieslings, they are fuller bodied than most of their Mosel counterparts, with higher alcohol and a good fruit character. Generally speaking, the Riesling wines of Burklin Wolf are priced reasonably and remain within reach to the average wine consumer.

The wines of Bürklin Wolf is represented in Asia by the following Chinese wine importers; Taste of Tradition and boutique wine retailer, Booze Wine Shop in Singapore, and Globus Wine in China.

Wine: 2006 Calestaia Morellino di Scansano Riserva

As an aspiring wine writer, we are appreciative for the access to evaluate good to premium wines. On this occasion at The China Club, we met Juliana Benelli (seen above) whom spearheads Autoctonous Fine Wines, a boutique wine importer exporting to Singapore and Beijing, Shanghai in China. Autoctonous customer base counts private clients, with major examples such as the Singapore Island Country Club, to The Polo Club and western styled restaurants.

On the topic of introducing Roccapesta wine, Juliana said “People may be bored with French wine, not because Italian wines are necessarily cheaper, but they are becoming better quality”. “We may compete with other wines, but not on price. Roccapesta is a boutique estate, completely different, while China is an affluent market, I believe they will be receptive to us.” Roccapesta winemaker and owner Alberto goes on to reinforce “We are of the best Sangiovese makers in Italy’s Morellino di Scansano, and these wines are a good example“.

The Italian wine region, Morellino di Scansano comes from a village called Scansano, situated on a mountain ridge in the heart of Maremma, which is an area in the southernmost part of Tuscany; far south of Chianti, south of Montalcino.

The region is host to long, hot growing seasons allowing grapes to fully ripen with high sugar levels and in turn produce wines rich in fruit and solid in structure. In other words: the hotter, the better. When you consider that very good wines come from Chianti in the north of Tuscany, and deeper, richer Brunello wines come from the more southern town of Montalcino, you can begin to understand the potential of vines grown in Scansano: the deep, deep south and at competitive prices too. And the potential is already beginning to be realized, as some of the top Chianti and “Super Tuscan” producers are buying into the area with plans to bottle the next great cult wines.

The wine, which was granted DOC status in 1978, was upgraded to DOCG status from the 2007 vintage is made from at least 85% Sangiovese, and remaining 0-15% can comprise from native grape sources.

Relatively new, Roccapesta is fronted by ex-financial consultant turned owner and winemaker, Alberto Tanzini. Alberto owned Roccapesta since 2003 and is today assisted by co-owner Leonardo Tanzini, Margareta, with Oenelogists Andrea Paoletti, Laura Bernini, and Daniel Schuster. Together, this team oversees 15 hectares of vineyards where they are planted with 90% Sangiovese, and Ciliegiolo, Malvasia nera, Pugnitello, Alicante, Petit Verdot, and Syrah. 90% of Roccapesta’s production is exported, with major customers from the United Kingdom and Switzerland. Autoctonous represents them in Singapore and the Greater China region. For more information, please see www.autoctonous.com or www.roccapesta.it.

Roccapesta is seeking distribution and trade partners in Singapore and China. The normale Morellino di Scansano is marketed (Wholesale prices) at S$ 33.00 (HK$ 166.00, RMB 146.00) with the Riserva at S$ 52.00 (HK$ 262.00, RMB 230.00).

2006 Roccapesta Morellino di Scansano (Italy, Tuscany, Maremma)
14.5%. 96% Sangiovese, and 4% Ciliegiolo. 50% wine lays for 12 months in French oak, with 50% in cement tanks. Additional 6 months in bottle before release. 2,500 cases made annually.

Relatively new, with toast, sweet black currant mingled with red berry on the nose. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied, firm with medium acidity and tannin, with accompanying sweet red berry flavors and a silk light mouth feel. Dry quick finish. Best from 2009 to 2012. 12/20 Tasted: March 2009.

2006 Calestaia Morellino di Scansano Riserva (Italy, Tuscany, Maremma)
100% Sangiovese first planted in the 1970s, 2 years in French oak, 1 year in bottle before release. 666 cases made yearly.

Intense with glinting reflections of vanilla, chocolate coffee, incense, backed by dense red and black berry aromas and light spice notes. Full-bodied, buffeted by a firm acidity, dry tannins giving some finesse and flavored further with red berries and a medium peppery finish. Enjoyable. Best from 2010 to 2018. 14/20 Tasted: March 2009.

Singapore – Organized by Hock Tong Bee with Antinori’s principal, Jacopo Pandolfini, a tasting was held recently at Cornerstone showcasing Antinori’s medium range of delicious and delectable premium wines.

酒 Jiuwine.com met Jacopo (as seen above) and asks him on Antinori interest in Asia (Except India and Japan). Interestingly, Antinori’s Asia representative recently relocated to Shanghai in November 2008, and as he observes the wine scene, Jacopo describes the Chinese in the Asian wine scene as; “China is still not a mature wine market, and while we target the affluent with our top wines like Tignanello and Solaia, which appeals to people, particularly rich people, and as more become educated, the product line will slowly filter down to entry level wines“.

He goes on further to say being Chianti’s biggest vineyard owner, “Antinori is Chianti. It’s about giving value, and we use local grapes and International grapes, always Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and native grape varieties. On the subject of wine with food, he reinforces “Italian wine have to be drank with food“, which was evidently so in an evening of wines and delicious lip smacking buffet line served at this tasting.

“Overall, I liked the way the Antinori tasting was set up, with an attractive participating fee and not too expensive. Moreover it was a targeted smaller group which gave a generally good and enjoyable experience.”, said Executive and wine enthusiast, Evan Ng, who was accompanied by his friend, Jack Ng.

Briefly: Antinori is one of Italy’s largest and most prestigious wineries, made famous by its well-known exploits and exports of Super-Tuscan labels such as: Tignanello (80% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc), Solaia (75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Sangiovese and 5% Cabernet Franc). Others well received brands include Pian delle Vigne (100% Sangiovese from Brunello di Montalcino), and Guado al Tasso (50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, 5% Syrah from Bolgheri).

The company owns 2,500 hectares throughout the country’s Tuscany and Umbria regions, as well as investments in vineyards in Napa Valley, California, and Szekszard, Hungary, and a handful of restaurants in Italy, Austria, and Switzerland. Today Marchese Piero Antinori is director of the company, assisted by his three daughters, Albiera, Allegra and Alessia, all of whom are personally involved in the business.

The estate exports some 60% internationally, with 20% to Asia, which includes China, Hong Kong and Singapore. Antinori is represented and distributed by the following Chinese wine importers in Asia, namely China – Summergate Fine Wines, Hong Kong – Maxxium China, and Singapore – Hock Tong Bee + Cornerstone Wine & Retail.

Tasting Notes:

N.V. Antinori Montenisa Franciacorta Brut (Italy, Tuscany)
12.5%. From 60 hectares of vineyards in Franciacorta, planted with Chardonnay, Pinot Nero and Pinot Bianco.

Medium-bodied and sees balanced moderate acidity than most standard NV champagnes, this Brut was delicate, citrus, velvety and clinically clean with a dry weighty finish. Best from 2009 to 2010. 12/20 Tasted: March 2009. HK$ 253.00. S$58.00.

2006 Castello della Sala Cervaro della Sala (Italy, Umbria)
13.0%. Made from 85% Chardonnay, and 15% Grechetto from 160 hectares Castello della Sala estate in Umbria. 6 months in French oak, with further 6 months in bottle before release.

This white was lovely, with a distinctive nose, which reminds me of Burgundian white wine style. On the nose it shines with sweet butter, condensed milk, and dry floral petals, with soft apricot and tropical fruit notes. Medium-bodied, still fresh and zesty, with fruit flavors, which reminds me of pear, pineapple, with a hint of lemon zest and mineral, dry medium plus finish. This white wine was impressive, a good white wine example and effort from Tuscany. Best from 2009 to 2015. 14/20. Tasted: March 2009. RMB 826.00. HK$430.00. S$95.00.

2004 Antinori Chianti Classico Riserva Tenute Marchese (Italy, Tuscany)
13.5%. Made from 90% Sangvioese and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon from the vineyards of Santa Cristina, Pèppoli and Badia a Passignano in the Chianti Classico region. 14 months in French oak, with an additional year in bottle before release.

Lightly floral with wood scented aromas, leather and a load of dark cherry fruit. Medium-bodied, balanced, with smooth acidity, cherry fruit, some licorice with a mix of finely grained tannins and a moderately dry medium finish. Best from 2009 to 2015. 12.5/20. Tasted: March 2009. RMB 490.00. HK$239.00. S$52.00.

Prunotto
Founded in 1923 by Alfredo Prunotto, Prunotto is a 40 hectares estate from Piedmont in Italy. With 60,000 cases made annually, Prunotto, a predominately red wine producer offers the following – Barbaresco, Barbaresco Bric Turot, Barbera d’Alba Pian Romualdo, Barbera d’Asti Costamiole, Barbera d’Asti Costamiole, Barolo Bussia, Barolo Cannubi, Dolcetto d’Alba Mosesco, and Nebbiolo d’Alba Occhetti plus sweet wine Moscato d’Asti. The Antinori family purchased Prunotto in 1989.

2005 Alfredo Prunotto Barbaresco (Italy, Piedmont)
14.0%. 100% Nebbiolo from vineyards located in Barbaresco, Treiso and Neive. 12 months in oak, with further 10 months in bottle before release.

The 2005 was a lovely, velvety example in and irregular climate but satisfying’ vintage, exalting wonderful aromas of blackberry, cherry, toast, meat and mineral. While it was an excellent aromatic wine, the Barbaresco was medium-bodied, with a texture of silky tannin, drying acidity, which then rounds off with a simplified medium finish. The single vineyard bottling, Bric Turot should be a more sensuous and serious Barbaresco to look out for. Best from 2009 to 2016. 13/20 Tasted: March 2009. RMB 966.00. HK$304.00. S$70.00.

2004 Alfredo Prunotto Barolo (Italy, Piedmont)
14.0%. 100% Nebbiolo from vineyards sited in Monforte, Serralunga and Castiglion Falletto. 24 months in Slavonian and French oak barrels, with a further 12 months in bottle before release. The winemaker notes described 2004 as a good quality year, which saw an increase in the volume of wine made.

The Prunotto Barolo was subtle, boasting of wonderful aromas of mint, dark cherry and dried floral. Full-bodied, rather linear yet bounced off by the presence of silky tannin, and a velvety light finish. Best from 2010 to 2015. 12.5/20 Tasted: March 2009. HK$ 511.00. S$82.00.

The Prunotto Barolo is not imported into China, while the single vineyard, Bussia is priced at RMB 1190.00.

2007 Fattoria Aldobrandesca Avignonesi Aleatico Sovana (Italy, Tuscany)
13.0%. 100% Aleatico. This was a simple sweet wine with hints of raspberry, spice and floral. Best from 2009 to 2010. 10/20 Tasted: March 2009. S$49.00.

Domaine de la Janasse is one of the Superstar estates of Chateauneuf-du-Pape combining the best of both traditional and modern techniques to craft a collection of riveting wines from “simple” value-priced to benchmark Châteauneufs.

The estate was founded in 1976 by Aimé Sabon, Christophe’s father, and assisted by son Christophe and family members Hélène and Isabelle. Together the family oversees and market some 50 hectares of vineyards, spread over as many as 70 different parcels throughout the appellation.

The estate’s more common and best wine offering includes:
Châteauneuf-du-Pape (Red): 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre with 1,500 to 1,800 cases made annually.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Chaupin (Red): 100% Grenache with 1,000 to 1,300 cases made.

Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes (Red): The estate’s best cuvee, made of 85% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 3% Mourvèdre, and 2% others from 4 different vineyards. 1,000 to 1,250 cases is produced yearly.

The value and entry level Côtes du Rhône (Red): 50% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, 15% Carignan, and 5% Cinsault sees some 6,600 cases while Côtes du Rhône Villages Terre d’Argile (Red): Grenache, Mourvèdre, Syrah makes some 1,666 cases in 2006.

In general, Janasse stands out for its rich and concentrated wines with a note of ripe fruit, generous, able to retain some measure of freshness, and balance making them highly seductive. The wines are priced variedly, with most of them within reach to the average wine consumer.

Janasse is represented and distributed by the following Chinese importers in Asia: China (Shanghai) – Globus Wine, Hong Kong – Red Wine Village, and Singapore – Taste of Tradition, subsidiary Booze Wine Shop.

The 2004 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes is a seductive wine with long cellaring capability, richness and pleasant flavors.

In a recent tasting organized by Booze Wine Shop in Singapore, we sipped through 3 wines, from Domaine de la Janasse, one of the rising or some say, risen Superstar from Southern Rhone, known to make superb Chateauneuf-du-Pape and value Côtes du Rhône red wines.
2007 Domaine de la Janasse Côtes du Rhône (France, Rhône, Southern Rhône) S$42.00.
14.0%. 50% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 10% Mourvèdre, 15% Vieux Carignan and 5% Cinsault.
A value drink with freshness, blackberry spice and liquorice. Medium-bodied it has soft and lush black currant and a light texture on palate and finish. Drink between 2009 to 2010. 10/20 Tasted: February 2009.

2005 Domaine de la Janasse Côtes du Rhône Villages Terre d’Argile (France, Rhône, Southern Rhône) S$50.00.
14.0%. 1/3 Syrah 1/3 Grenache 1/3 Mourvèdre.
Fresher and more aromatic, with deep black cherry and spice. Medium-bodied, with a refreshing acidity to wake your senses, and balanced with a smooth blend of sweet berries and a light peppery finish. Drink between 2009 to 2012. 12/20 Tasted: February 2009.

2004 Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes (France, Rhône, Southern Rhône) S$130.00.
15.0%. 80-year old 90% Grenache vines and with the rest Syrah and Mourvedre.
A seductive and with a long cellar life ahead, the 2004 VV gets better, moving several notches up its quality ladder with density, richness, and depth. Very floral, with layers of blue and black berry, further complicated by subtle mineral and licorice undertones. Rich on the palate with a full-bodied mouth feel, accompanied by expansionary flavors of more smooth texture, silky tannin which lends this cuvee finesse on top of its core sweet dark fruit. Good medium length and memorizing finish. Very good. Best from 2010 to 2023. 15/20 Tasted: February 2009.

2001 Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape (France, Rhône, Southern Rhône)
14.5%. 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, and 10% Mourvedre.
A nose of red fruits bouquet, with richness and extraction on the nose. Medium to full-bodied, with firm acidity, good depth and balance, rounding off with a fruit driven medium finish. Best from 2006 to 2015. 11/20 Tasted: September 2007.

2002 Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape (France, Rhône, Southern Rhône)
14.5%. 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, and 10% Mourvedre.
Tasted on Fri 21.09.2007 @ Booze Wine Shop. 14.5%. Typical blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, and 10% Mourvedre.
Classic and perfumed red fruits nose. Light to medium-bodied, a rather green (unripe) fruit feel texture, with little interest, depth an a zero finish. An unappealing Châteauneuf-du-Pape. 10/20 From 2006 to 2010. Tasted: September 2007.

2004 Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape (France, Rhône, Southern Rhône)
14.5%.80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, and 10% Mourvedre.
Like the 1999, the 2004 is lovely with good dark berries aromas. Still young and a very tough Châteauneuf-du-Pape at this stage with a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel and firm huge chewy tannins, good fruit structure and a short to medium finish. 13/20 Best from Drink between 2009 and 2018. Tasted: September 2007.
